“Ramona Racecar Dragster” is Dave Ybarra’s first mural for the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project. His previous murals can be viewed in Lakeside, where he lives. This mural memorializes the Ramona Drag Strip that operated in the 1960s as the San Diego Raceway for drag racers next to the Ramona Airport—drawing thousands of participants and viewers.
Saratoga Sake also painted the Ramona “1938 Turkey Day Queen” and “Midget Car Race” and co-painted the “Working in the Vineyard” murals. The artist currently lives in East County with his two children and wife Chef Stacey Poon-Kinney Star of Food Network.
As with all Ramona mural projects, viewers will be challenged to discover the “heart” icons in a “Where’s Waldo” exercise.
Donations to help pay for the murals projects can be made on the website at http://ramonamurals.com. Donations of $100 or more will be listed on the website and on a plaque on the building. The Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation.
